DEALING WITH SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS

Have you ever thought about the following?

How can it be possible for God to manifest in a certain location, where some will encounter Him but others not, yet they stand in exactly the same location?

Or how can a powerful revelation be shared from the pulpit and some understand yet others do not?

How is this possible?

Many believers may have sight in the natural, but in the Spirit, they are walking around aimlessly – with no sight into the spiritual realm. As a result, they fall prey to the wiles of the enemy.

The Bible describes three groups of people:

  1. Those who can’t hear nor see spiritually
  2. Those who can hear but cannot see spiritually
  3. Those who can hear and see spiritually

13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;

15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’

16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;”

 Matthew 13:13-16 (NKJV)

The above scripture clearly states that there is a blessing connected to those that can both hear and see spiritually. This means that your blessing is connected to your understanding and perception of spiritual things.

18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians 1:18 (NKJV)

Here, the Bible makes it clear that our understanding has eyes, and that when they are open, we will know the hope of His calling and the inheritance that we now have in Christ Jesus.

This is how the enemy has robbed so many believers of a blessing – he has closed their understanding in certain fundamental areas.

The following five keys will heal spiritual blindness:

  1. Know that you are called unto a “holy nation”

The first factor causing many to be spiritually blind is failing to understand where they are operating from. Physically you may be living in a particular city or nation, but when you receive Jesus, you are called into a different nation.

When called, you will need to steer away from distractions – and one major distraction is called self-implanted righteousness.

Many live in their own righteousness and not in the righteousness of God. Understand that you were called to lead a certain type of life;  a life that is according the purpose and grace of God.

The enemy will do anything that he possibly can to steer you away from God’s call and purpose for your life. When we do not know our call and purpose, we won’t even realise when we are being steered away.

This is why Paul said in 2 Peter 1:10 that we should, with all diligence, make sure what is our calling and election, because when we do this, we will not fall.

  1. Believe that the One who has called you is faithful

Many believers lack in this area where they do not understand the faithfulness of God. They know they have been called, but they easily start to doubt God’s faithfulness, when their natural circumstances starts to speak against what God has promised.

There is nothing that spiritually blinds a believer like being focused on your natural circumstances.

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NKJV)

The Bible says that Abraham did not stagger at the promise, but that he remained strong in faith knowing that what God has promised, He was also able to perform. This was counted to him as righteousness. He refused to see anything but what God has promised.

  1. Understand that God calls the unqualified

Another thing that is causing many to be spiritually blind is failing to accept that God has actually called them. The enemy will use your past failures and mistakes to blind you from what God has for you, and therefore, many can’t accept the fact that God actually can and wants to use them.

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

1 Corinthians 1:28-29 (NKJV)

God is giving through a very important principle. He does not think nor see things the way that the world does. So if you are feeling unqualified, rejected, unworthy and useless, know that God is about to use you mightily.

  1. We are called to be examples of the Lord Jesus Christ:

21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

 1 Peter 2:21 (NKJV)

Majority of believers, once they have been called, start off strong but quickly get diverted by their circumstances. They can only see what they are going through now.

When we follow in Jesus’s footsteps, we are walking in what is supernatural, and this will cause a spiritual substance to materialize in the natural where the natural will be cancelled out by a blessing. Don’t let your circumstances blind you. The Word is your mirror, and it’s reflecting Christ. Refuse to see anything else.

  1. All things are working together for your good:

All things will work in your favour who are called according to His purpose.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

 Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

No matter what you are faced with, when you walk in your calling, that thing will not be able to kill you, drag you down or stop you, because God is on your side. God is a master strategist, and He will make it work in your favour because you are His chosen and called generation.

The enemy will think that he has you, but then suddenly there will be a turnaround that will glorify God in and through your life, just like with Esther, with Daniel in the lion’s den and with David when he came up against Goliath.

Stop being spiritually blinded by the lies of the enemy. Stop perceiving the things that come up against you as the end – allowing fear, doubt and anxiety to come in. Rather see everything that comes up against you as an opportunity through which God can be glorified.

Understand that God is working with you, and that He will confirm His Word by signs, miracles, healing and wonders that will follow the moment that we make the decision to step out by faith.

How do we deal with spiritual blindness?

One of the most effective and powerful weapons given to the body of Christ that causes scales of the Word to fall off is called “prayer and fasting”. This brings us into perfect alignment with God and His perfect will.

Fasting must become a lifestyle, as it is a continuous process whereby we need to die to ourselves.

Although there are many reasons why we need to die to the flesh, one fundamental reason is the importance of sharpening your spiritual sight.

I declare and decree that even as you press into God with prayer and fasting, that spiritual blindness will be removed off your life, in the Name of Jesus!
